NS Healthcare Heroes: High Crest Home
“I would like to nominate High Crest Home in New Glasgow, NS as Healthcare Heroes because of the loving care and compassion they have for their residents. During COVID-19, the home was very diligent in doing their best to protect their residence. With closing the doors to the family members and public, residents were unable to leave the premises. To enlighten the day once a week, a staff member takes a “special grocery order” and goes out shopping to purchase treats for the residents. These treats are being provided by High Crest Home free of charge during this time. The residents really look forward to ‘shopping day’ Wednesdays. High Crest Home has purchased iPads so the residents can speak and visually see their loved ones during this time. All TV services are free at this time and now include Netflix.
The Recreation department is providing craft lessons such as bread making, card making and Painting. They run a daily exercise program including taking residents outside for walks on the property to get exercise and fresh air. High Crest Home has built above ground gardens for the residents to get out and plant, they purchased flower boxes for residents who enjoy planting flowers.
The staff have regular meetings to discuss the needs of the residents, and how each department is operating and discuss any new developments. They have increased ongoing cleaning 24/7. All departments act as a team and are there to support each other. The staff are very dedicated and vigilant to the safety of the residents. They see how much the residents and their families are missing each other during this difficult and unusual time.”
