NS Healthcare Hero: Lois MacLean

“I would like to nominate our lovely respite nurse Lois MacLean. Lois is a fantastic woman with many clients who she cares for in their homes, helping them maintain their independence and giving their families peace of mind.

Lois is also my grandmother, and last year had the incredibly difficult task of caring for my terminally ill daughter. I have seen how hard it is on Lois when she loses a client, and losing her great granddaughter was a challenge she knew she would face and she still took her without question.

We were so lucky to have had her care and support during my daughter’s illness. It was so difficult to find carers who were comfortable with all her equipment and the responsibility of making huge medical decisions with very little time to think about them. The best part about Lois is that I know my daughter didn’t get any special attention for being family. Lois treats all of her clients like they are family.”
