NS Healthcare Heroes: Shannex Elk Court

“I would like to nominate the CCAs, RNs and LPNs at Shannex Elk Court in Brookfield. COVID-19 has been difficult for long-term care and a group of CCAs, RNs and LPNs along with support staff created a staff lead garden club that includes residents. Staff reached out to the community for assistance in getting the garden club started with needed items. The community opened their arms and wrapped them around Elk Court.

The staff have been busy with their day to day work and volunteering their off time and breaks to help prepare vegetable and flower gardens for residents to plant, giving them an opportunity to reminisce about when they used to garden in their younger years. The project has been an awakening after being shut in for so long from covid. The CCA’s have been able to spend quality time with residents and build their very first garden club together. The joy it brings is touching and absolutely heartwarming.”
