NS Healthcare Hero: Sheryl Macdonald
“Sheryl works in the occupational health and safety department. Her role as a Safety Professional for the last 5 years has covered a wide spectrum of duties. Having come from Sydney, Sheryl was just as fortunate as the Health Authority was to acquire her after completing her occupational health and safety degree at NSCC Marconi campus and not having to leave her hometown for employment.
Sheryl wears her heart on her sleeve, she’s known for her hard work ethic and dedication to her family, her job, and her community and her love for them all. Recently, with the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheryl was tasked with the duty of fit testing all staff in eastern zone with N95 respirator masks so that they could help others and do their health care jobs safely with properly fitted personal protective equipment to optimize their protection against the terrible coronavirus. Sheryl not only took this challenge head on, but she did it with a smile on her face.
Sheryl rearranged her entire life schedule to be able to provide her service and to be able to look after her daughter as she lost her babysitter all at the same time. Sheryl starts her day at the crack of dawn and is at her desk by 7am, but her day does not end when the work whistle blows because not only is she a health care hero she is also a wonderful mother to a beautiful two year old girl named Paisley whom she unconditionally loves and cares for.
Like Sheryl’s work duties, she also excels at home behind the scenes going above and beyond to ensure her little princess has no worries. Sheryl often works 16 hour days between work and home but you’ll never hear her complain. I can’t say enough about this young lady. In closing I would have to add that our community, our healthcare system and our world is a better place because of you Sheryl. THANK YOU!”
