Sometimes There’s A Hitch In Your Plans
A man went out after a heavy rain to find his car stuck in mud in the driveway. He called his buddy, who came over with his truck and a trailer hitch and about 30 feet of yellow nylon rope. They hooked the car up to the hitch and figured they could tow it.
They started pulling and the rope started stretching. Maybe you know the kind of rope they used—it’s got quite a bit of give. The rope stretched and stretched and all of a sudden there was a pop as the ball from the trailer hitch came free of the truck.
The hitch ball sailed up through the air, over the car, and into the big picture window on the front of the house. There was so much spring and force built up in the rope that the ball smashed through the window and kept on going. It went through a wall on the other side of the room and right into the kitchen where it hit the fridge with a bang.
So now, the man had a car stuck in the driveway, a broken window, a hole in the wall, a dented refrigerator, and there was glass all over the carpet and the family sofa. You can imagine how he and his buddy looked to his wife. But the thing is, he also had home insurance.
Insurance paid for the window. It paid to repair the wall and the refrigerator. It covered the clean up costs and even covered the purchase of a new sofa, because they couldn’t be sure that the old one was safe to sit on with all the glass shards.
Funny things like this happen all the time. We don’t know when they’re going to happen. We don’t know who they’re going to happen to. But we have learned to expect the unexpected. That’s what insurance is for.
